Uncle Nimr holding an ancestor's sword, September 2024
This is an image from my photo book Inheritance, a project I have been working on the past year. My family had suffered a split in the mid 1980s and divided into a Jordanian and a German section. In recent years we reconnected and I was the first person to set foot in the country of my grandfather. There, I started reconstructing this old argument, tracing the divide and document our two parts growing together again. My great-uncle Nimr showed my a family heirloom. A sword, supposedly from Byzantine times that had been bought by a great-greatuncle of his who had then fought with it during the First World War.
