Somali Independence Day 2

Some shots with my Vivitar UW+S at the Somali Independence Day Festival here in Minneapolis this July. This festival happens every year on Lake Street, where I live, and it's fun to see everyone out and about. Minneapolis has one of the largest populations of Somalis in the United States, and they have helped everyone develop a taste for sambusas!

The Somalis have acclimated to the winter as well. Brr what difference from Somalia.

@neufotomacher True! I was talking to a co-worker named Asha who said that she was baffled by her children that have grown up in Minnesota. They tell her every year that they can't wait for winter, so they can play outside in the snow for hours and hours. She said, "I just can't do it - I can tolerate the cold, but I'm not going to play in it for 4 hours." Kids acclimate quickly. Another funny thing is girls trying to figure out which snowpants to buy so that they don't show under their Jilbab (the long, usually black tunic that is often worn over clothes).

I would guess the Jilbab is somewhat accommodating.
