Roberta Tocco Enchants with the Daguerreotype Achromat Art Lens

1

The talented photographer Roberta Tocco is not new to the Lomography community. We already got to know her through this interview just a few months ago. This time she amazes us with delicate and emotional shots, which perfectly interpret the magic of the Daguerreotype Achromat Art Lens.

Here, she shares her first impressions with the art lens.

"In my opinion, the Daguerreotype Achromat is a lens that should be within the kit of all portraitists: it is 64 mm, a perfect focal length for both close-ups and whole figures. Its bokeh creates a delicate and dreamy atmosphere and photos almost become watercolor paintings.

I have always used lenses with automatic focusing, so the manual one was my only initial difficulty. After some practice, I have realized that it wasn't a limit at all. On the opposite, it becomes an advantage as working on the unfocused allows you to create the image you want and, while you are getting used to it, you become faster and more precise.

The final result is stunning to me: it is like on top of the lens there was a voile, which makes everything cocoon-like but still maintaining the sharpness of the subject. For me this is the true potential of the lens.

I tested the Daguerreotype Achromat lens in different sets and light conditions. Natural light while outside, flashlight in the studio, and both lights inside; hence always a different depth of field. In each case, it was great, as the lens offers something more to a simple portrait.

For the light condition outside, I often used the maximum aperture of f2.9, while for the shooting with the flash I have chosen a closer aperture such as f6 and f8.

In my opinion, you can use this lens in any artistic photographic environment: not just portraits but also reportage for instance, because the results are incredible and unpredictable and move photography closer to painting."
