First Impressions of the Daguerreotype Achromat 2.9/64 Art Lens: Leung-Kit

London based photographer Leung-Kit specializes in fashion and portrait photography. With his skills in a soft and gentle style of photography, we decided he would be the perfect person to test out the Daguerreotype Achromat Lens.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m a fashion and portraiture photographer based in London, I’ve been shooting for about 7 years now. I’m currently in my final year at Ravensbourne University studying photography.

How was it shooting with the Daguerreotype Achromat lens?

The lens was really different to use compared to my usual lenses. Having to change the aperture blades and focus manually was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I love the effect and vintage vibe that the lens produces. Each photo feels really personal, because of the hands-on nature of the lens.

What did you choose to shoot?

I used the Daguerreotype Achromat on a few test shoots for my portfolio. These were all shot in London. I shot a lot of portraits with Sophie in Soho.

Have you had any difficult or challenging situations throughout your photography career?

I think the most challenging situation I’ve been in, is setting up a magazine. I set up a fashion and art magazine last year, called Eight Magazine. It was really challenging to step back from thinking like a photographer and looking at the product as a whole. But, the experience helped me meet and collaborate with so many creative people.

What’s coming up in the future?

I’ll be in Scandinavia in February, working on a book based on Scandinavian beauty - both the people, and landscape. I’ll be posting a lot about on my Instagram @kipkat
