Shanghai 1923

aka. Silver Wood No II. The RBM2 emulsion is definitely not made for extreme contrast scenarios, The difference between the umbrella and the dress was maybe 3 stops, however the umbrella is rendered almost white while the dress is almost black. As a sucker of crazy contrast I can live with it, but it's definitely borderline.

@klawe Thanks! Yes, nice little detail indeed

At first it's hard to say what happened in the top left corner ("was it an emulsion application problem?"), and then I realized it was an umbrella. That's part of the joy of experimenting new processes. Perhaps, in spite of the high contrast issue, if the umbrella was in focus we could have appreciated more of its details? What do you think? Applying some lighting on the dark zone of the model would have solved the contrast problem too, but maybe that wasn't the rendering you were seeking.
That said, I really do like the bottom right zone with all the flowers details.
Keep up the good work! ☺

@srcardoso Yeah as I was saying, not the greatest result but I still appreciate the look, especially the actual wood plate is quite beautiful. Unfortunately it was technically not really possible to get the umbrella in focus also as I am not even a meter away and have to expose at ISO3, even wide open at f5.6 it was a 2s exposure. At this distance, to get both girl and umbrella in focus I would need to be around f16... I wanted some more flower detail on the dress over all, too. I guess I might actually reshoot this on a nice day on Velvia!

@montagu Yep, the iso3 doesn't make it simple... especially when a model has to stay static that long.
Just to know, wouldn't some kind of swing help to get the umbrella in a focus zone?

@srcardoso You could indeed! I actually tried that, but by doing so I lose the focus on the head and hair, which then kind of looked like I 'missed' the focus. Thus here we are in this incomprehensive visual mess. I do think it's just a problem off loss of detail, if there would be more detail on the umbrella it wouldn't be an issue
