I bought a fifty year old camera from Ebay for £12 and took it to India.

A heavy all metal, all mechanical Twin Lens Reflex camera built in 1961 in East Germany, the Weltaflex TLR became such a talking point for locals and fellow travellers I would often get bored of fending off questions about it and leave it back at my lodgings.

I’d take someone’s picture and they would expect me to turn the camera around so they could see their image on a digital screen.

Was it worth taking up all my hand luggage with this and my other camera and film and hauling it across the subcontinent? Absolutely (with an Indian wobble of the head).
