The Island of Fogo is an immense volcano emerging from the depths of the Atlantic. According to documents from the XVth century, the island was initially named São Filipe but volcanic eruptions led its inhabitants from the fourteen hundreds to change its name to “Fogo” (fire).

La Isla de Fogo es un volcán inmenso emergiendo de las profundidades del Atlántico. Según documentos del Siglo XV, la isla fue inicialmente nombrada São Filipe pero la cantidad de erupciones volcánicas inspiraron a sus habitantes de aquel entonces a cambiarle el nombre a "Fogo" (fuego).
